KMES Book Clubs: The Circuit

KMES Book Clubs: The Circuit

At our book club meeting this Wednesday, April 2nd, we began reading Bad Boy by Walter Dean Meyers.

Walter Dean Meyers begins Bad Boy with the chapter Roots. We agreed we would all go home and ask about our family history, our "roots".

Where are your parents from? Grandparents? Great-great...(ancestors)? When did your ancestors arrive in America? From where? Does anyone know why? Any famous ancestors?

Agreement: On Friday we agreed to read through Roots, Harlem, Let's Hear it for First Grade, and Arithmetic Summer.

Guiding Questions: Think about the following questions as your read. Be sure to post your own thoughts and  ideas. Try posting one quote from the chapters you would like to talk about on Friday. It can be a passage you found interesting or confusing.

Think about how Walter came to live in Harlem.

How does Meyers experience Harlem in his early years? What is the mood of the chapter? I would like to talk about the following quotes on Friday.

"The sound of Mama's voice in our sun-drenched Harlem Kitchen was like a special kind of music, meant for only me." page 14
